What is hot stones reflexology?

As the name suggests, this therapy uses hot stones to stimulate reflex points in the feet or hands. The stones used are smooth and dark in colour and are usually made from basalt – a volcanic rock.  Basalt contains titanium and iron and is very good at holding heat.

The stones are heated to a comfortable temperature in a hot-water bath. The heat helps to open up energy pathways and, as the muscles warm up, your reflexologist will have deeper access into your reflex points.

Hot stones reflexology may not only help to ease the stresses and strains associated with illness or tension, but the session itself is also extremely comforting and relaxing – many people even fall asleep.

What happens during hot stones reflexology?

Hot stones reflexology is applied while you are lying down, so we’ll ask you to make yourself comfortable on our therapy bed and cover you with warmed blankets. First, your therapist will relax you with a hot stones massage on your neck and shoulders, so it’s best if you wear a vest top or something that’s easy to slip down over your shoulders. Then they will start working on your feet. Of course, if you don’t want a neck and shoulder massage, they can just focus on your feet.
